Business Communication & Personal Branding
It was wonderful to have
Mr. Nikhil Kulkarni presenting in our
Business Communication session. He is co-founder of tripdarwin.com and 10years experience in Consulting at
KPMG. After working in KPMG he started own travel company tripdarwin
which is in segment of Holiday segment and Business to Business Services.
The content of
the presentation was crisp and he discussed all the
basic requirements that management students should inculcate in the early stages of their career.
He emphasised on the importance of software platforms such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel in the consulting area.
Consultancy
is all about 80 % Communication, 15% relationship and 5% research.
Consultants
must be able to communicate their ideas to clients effectively to make their
services worthwhile. Communication skills can be just as important to consultants
as technical expertise.
The above mentioned tools should be mastered as it is heavily used in making
proposals, reports, Executive Briefing work papers, and detailed project
reports.
Next, he gave us the mantra of “Pyramid Principle” which emphasizes on the framework of any document.
As per the pyramid, the content should be designed taking into account the kind
of audience which is to be addressed. For example, an accountant may be
interested in the way the idea is implemented and the cost of the outcome. On
the other hand, some other employees may be curious to know the effect on their
job role. The content should not be repetitive and every aspect should be
independent of each other. In a nutshell, content should be mutually exclusive
and collectively exhaustive.
After this, he discussed about the hierarchical structure in which our context should be organized. He told us how this organization of idea reinforces the way the human mind sorts the information into logical groups. Each supporting argument should reflect the idea of MECE and must be supported by ideas, data, facts, or logic. In the end, the summarizing statement should briefly cover all the points discussed in the document or presentation.
The difference between Data and Fact is example 20,000 deaths in
Maharashtra by covid'19 is data. and Maharashtra worst effected by covid
'19 is Fact. For creating Impact start your messaging
before introduction, by mins video clip or some images or questioning.
and picture superiority effect more speak.
The next topic of
discussion was the creation of a personal brand. It's about creating your
self-image with your work such people don’t need to see your CV for your
introduction. You don’t need to seek work but the work should come seeking you.
Social media platforms can be vital in self-branding. Powerful blogs with good
content can earn you followers. Creative posts on Twitter,Facebook, YouTube and
Instagram can
be equally effective.
He told us how Personal brand can give us an upper hand in many situations and
improve our reach. A personal brand allows a person to self-manage their life without having dependent on others. It gives you an unique identity. A personal brand means that more people know you than people you know.It builds credibility as though leader and expert in area of specialty. You can excel in your career - whether corporate or entrepreneurial, a personal brand does wonders!
It was a very informative lecture. And,I would say that the knowledge that he shared with us will definitely be helpful throughout our lifetime.
